Annette Yao is a 2D artist who currently resides in San Jose, California. She deals mainly with character conceptual art and world-building design concepts, employing both traditional and digital methods to communicate her ideas. She also dabbles in plein-air landscape painting and abstract painting.

She recently graduated from University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) with a Bachelor's Degree in Art. During her time at UCSC, she collaborated with two separate teams of senior game design students and created 2D art assets for use in their games: Eye of the Giant (2015) and Featherweight (2016), of which the former was nominated for three separate awards at the annual UCSC Sammy Awards ceremony and was the runner-up for the Best Visual Art category. In her final year, she created a 20-page long digital comic about the struggles of finding a job as a college student called One Foot Forward (2016).

In her spare time, she enjoys playing video games, reading fictional stories, and playing with her cat.
